. WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Many of the WYTM's have gone on to work as civilian tugs around the U.S.  Some were parted out and scrapped, and some were even sunk to make artificial reefs. We've researched the disposition of each ship and have dedicated a page to bring this information to you. Apalachee Class CLICK PICTURE Photo: Ed Anderson APALACHEE was sold into civilian service in 1989.  Currently owned by Thomas Kowal and stationed at Oswego, NY although sees limited commercial service.  YANKTON, renamed RUSSELL JR. in 1987, saw years of ocean service, until being sold to Constellation Towing in 2001 and renamed CETUS.  Currently in service at Boston Photo: Franz VonRiedel

RARITAN CLASS   Photo: Franz VonRiedel ARUNDEL, after working for Canonie and Andrie, moving oil barges on the Great Lakes, is now owned by Dan Kobasic (Basic Marine) of Escanaba and is in service as an ice breaking and over-lake towing tug MAHONING sold to S.U.N.Y. as a training vessel in New York.  Renamed GENERAL PHILIP SCHUYLER.  Retired in 2000, sold for scrap in 2001 and broken up at Witte's Staten Island boneyard
Photo: Franz VonRiedel NAUGATUCK as the "Jimmy L." at Selvick's home dock in Sturgeon Bay, WI during June of 1997.  She is their primary tug for ice breaking during the harsh winter months on the Lakes. RARITAN sold to S.U.N.Y. as a parts tug for the MAHONING and sold for scrap at the same time.  Broken up after her fleetmate in December of 2001 at Witte's boneyard
HUDSON CLASS   USCGC CALUMET W86 HUDSON Owned for a time by the Great Lakes Maritime Academy (70-78), was sold to Selvick Marine Towing of Sturgeon Bay, renamed MINNIE SELVICK , but eventually scrapped at Kewaunee in 1992. Photo by: Roger LeLievre
Photo: Franz VonRiedel NAVESINK became the Sherman IX and was scrapped if 2003. The center tug  abandoned at Panama City, she was raised on a state clean-up contract, and taken off shore and scuttled in 2003.  TUCKAHOE was repowered in 1980 with an EMD 645 and ended service in the late 1980's as the J. EDW. SLATTEN for Bisso Towboat (New Orleans).  Dismantled in 1991.
MANITOU CLASS   Photo: Franz VonRiedel MANITOU purchased by Keith Malcolm in 1984 and rebuilt and repowered.  Her original Ingersoll-Rand's and electric propulsion unit were removed and replaced with a 16-567C EMD and gearbox.  Still in service from Port Huron.  KAW now the Capt.
